Alan Levine is a wood sculptor, furniture designer and custom cabinet maker in Philadelphia. Levine holds a BFA in Graphic Design and an MFA in Sculpture from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, where he was an instructor for over 10 years. During that time, he developed and expanded the two-dimensional foundation design program with a strong emphasis on Color Theory. For Levine, wood is the ideal medium through which he expresses his skill as a craftsman and his personal aesthetic. Influenced by Kandinsky, Moore, and Brancusi, he creates tension using both geometric and organic forms to produce complex and kinetic designs. Some pieces use exotic woods, displaying their natural beauty; other pieces are painted or patterned to create movement or balance.
